Finally, something is happen with the Ritz! The building will now be restored and multiple levels added as part of a planned apartment hotel.
Construction hasn’t started as yet, but workers were seen at the location adding supports in early July.
The former Eureka hotel is being redeveloped. The Facebook page describes the new building as a ‘modern interpretation of a great pub, dining room and bar featured in the heart of Geelong’s busy CBD hospitality precinct, Little Malop Street. The upper area will be known as Shorts Place Social. It is expected to open in Early August.
The Geelong Performing Arts Centre is slowly being redeveloped. It is being done in stages so people can still attend events and that the existing heritage can be preserved. Currently, work is being done on the $38.5 million Ryrie Street redevelopment. This is scheduled to be completed later in 2019.
In 2020, work will start on redeveloping the existing Little Malop Street building. $128 million has been allocated for this project and it is due to be completed in 2023.
The former building has been demolished at 44 Ryrie street. The site has since been empty. I’m not sure when work will commence, however the development is expected to be completed late 2020. A building has been appointment.
16 Gheringhap street
A new development has been approved for a 12-store office tower at 16 Gheringhap Street. It is slated to start construction Q1, 2020

The area is currently home to some beautiful old buildings, the boards and tags. It is next to the planned Civic Precinct and the proposed Dennys Lascelles Tower development. It is worth getting photos from this location as there will be a lot of changes in the surrounding area.
The Dennys Lascelles Tower
This new development, which will include 8 floors of office towers, was announced during September 2017. I haven’t been able to find more information, however the Techne Development website lists it as a current project.
The premises at 60-78 Moorabool St are set to be replaced by an eight-story new head office. In late June, the buildings were The project is expected to start in mid to late 2019 and be completed by early 2021. (via Geelong Advertiser.)

Geelong Convention & Exhibition Centre
$170 million has been allocated to the new convention centre as part of the Geelong City Deal project. It will be built on the existing Deakin Waterfront Car Park site. In the short term, it may be worth photographing the car park and the buildings around this area before this precinct evolves.
National Mutual Life Building
This is the site of the former Thomas Jewellers store at 90 MOORABOOL Street. In June, 2018, the Geelong Advertiser reported about plans to develop the building.
New Council Headquarters
A new Civic Precinct at is being planned at 137 Mercer Street. Currently, 3 developers have been shortlisted. Constructions is expected to being in early 2020 and completed mid 2022.
